Verstappen sets new lap record in second German GP practice

HOCKENHEIM, Germany (AP) Max Verstappen set a new lap record in leading the second practice for the German Grand Prix on Friday.

The 20-year-old Dutch driver clocked 1 minute, 13.085 seconds to eclipse veteran Kimi Raikkonen's time of 1:13.78 from 2004.

"We have a good balance in the car, short and long run (speed)," Verstappen said. "It was a nice surprise to start so competitively. The others will be quicker for qualifying, but certainly a better-than-expected start."
